Course Description

The aim of this workshop is to help therapists (OT, ST and PT) make sense of what is required for independent toileting and how it can be achieved with your therapeutic support. Paediatric rehab therapists working in a school are in a privileged position to help parents navigate this journey.

Topics that will be covered:

  • Normal Bladder and bowel function in children
  • Development of the pelvic floor and core
  • Pelvic floor function in kids with special needs
  • Potty training considerations for special needs
  • Being part of a toilet-training team
  • Considerations for specific conditions like CP, Spina Bifida and Autism
  • Considerations in a school setting e.g. informed consent
