Positive Behaviour Support – The Low Arousal Approach includes the theory of Positive Behaviour Support. The various behaviours that are viewed as challenging behaviour, differences in how certain behaviours are viewed as well as the triggers involved in the causes of challenging behaviour. ‘The Low Arousal Approach’ provides insight into the cues that are necessary to observed before challenging behaviour occurs. It also includes the role that sensory regulation plays as well as the functions of this behaviour. These themes are valuable to making intervention decisions and applying the Low Arousal Approach. The course delves into the de-escalation of challenging behaviour and how we can intervene and continue to support challenging behaviours that has an impact on a child’s ability to participate and remain regulated in daily life. The implementation of various strategies is discussed, and most importantly the prevention of challenging behaviour to avoid crisis management.
