Course Description

This is an intermediate level course for Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists (and other interested practitioners), which aims to provide you with the tools to manage bowel, bladder and sexuality concerns in the Spinal Cord Injured population.

We will introduce you to the concepts of how Spinal Cord Injury could change the function of these systems and how best to teach your patient and their carer how to manage these vital systems and prevent complications. This course is aimed at therapists who treat patients with spinal cord injury at any setting.

Course Objectives

  • Understanding the anatomy of the digestive and urinary system in humans.
  • Effect that Spinal Cord Injury can have on the Bowel, Bladder and on Sexuality.
  • How to manage each of these systems including understanding the considerations to take and the complications that can arise.
  • How to teach the patient and/or their carer on how to manage these systems.
