TITLE: Beyond the Story: How Trauma Lives in the Body—Interoception, Memory, and Meaning
ABOUT THE TALK: Trauma is often discussed as an event or narrative—but its most enduring imprint is carried in the body. What does it truly mean that “the body keeps the score”? This webinar moves beyond surface-level explanations to explore how trauma is encoded through sensory, motor, and interoceptive systems, shaping how individuals feel, respond, and make meaning of their internal world.
We will examine how disruptions in interoception, the ability to sense internal bodily states, contribute to difficulties in emotional awareness, regulation, and self-concept. Drawing from neurobiology, developmental theory, and clinical practice, this session unpacks how trauma is held in patterns of tension, timing, and physiological expectation rather than explicit memory alone. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how to recognize trauma in the body and how to support regulation through relational and body-based pathways, moving clients from survival-driven responses toward embodied safety and integration.
