TITLE:  Create2Grow for Teachers: An Occupational Therapy-Designed Group Programme to Improve Participation in Primary School Children with Learning Differences

ABOUT THIS TALK: This 2 hour training for teachers is a comprehensive introduction into Create2Grow a specialised arts-based prevocational programme designed to support neurodivergent primary school learners who experience difficulty participating meaningfully in school and social life. The programme was developed to be resource-conscious and was published in the open-access journal Brain and Behaviour in 2026, demonstrating feasibility and a significant clinical impact in improving learners’ participation and performance in developmentally relevant everyday activities. Attendees will have the opportunity to receive a Create2Grow accreditation certificate, and enjoy an exclusive discount on the Create2Grow intervention manual for programme implementation.

PRESENTER: Beth Conolly

ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Naomi Beth Conolly, commonly known as Beth, is an occupational therapist, researcher, and trainer based in Stellenbosch, Western Cape. Her mission is to achieve health equity in low-resource settings by increasing access to developmental services for marginalised children with neurodevelopmental and mental health challenges. Her five years of community development work and research culminated in Create2Grow and widespread psychoeducation initiatives, as she has had the opportunity to train over 500 teachers, caregivers, students, and community workers in early identification and intervention methods, according to her ‘decentralised, community-based practice approach’. Beth currently works as the Training and Research Coordinator at Khula Development Group and serves as a clinical supervisor for final year occupational therapy students at Stellenbosch University.
